Privacy policy

This policy explains what SellYourDevice collects when you sell us a device, why we need it, who sees it, and how to get it deleted.

Who we are

SellYourDevice is a device buyback business operating in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. You can reach us any time at support@sellyourdevice.net or on (617) 684-5189. If you need our registered postal address — for a privacy request, or anything legal — email us and we'll provide it.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to price your device, pay you, and meet the record-keeping rules that apply to used-electronics buyers.

• Device details — model, storage, condition, battery health, and carrier lock status, from the answers you give on the quote page.
• Your identity and contact details — name, email address, and phone number, so we can send your shipping label, ask questions, and pay you.
• Device identifiers — the IMEI or serial number. We use this to confirm the device is not reported lost or stolen and is not locked to an account.
• Photos you upload — images of your device used to verify its condition before it ships.
• Payment details — whatever is needed to send your money, which depends on the payout method you choose.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for your Social Security number, and we never ask for the passcode, Apple ID password, Google account password, or any other account credential for your device. If anyone claiming to be SellYourDevice asks you for those, it is not us — please report it to support@sellyourdevice.net.

Photos stay on your device until you send them

The photos you attach on the checkout page are held in your own browser and are not transmitted anywhere until you email them to us yourself. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Why we keep the IMEI

Buyers of second-hand electronics are required in many states to record a device identifier and details of the person selling it, and to make those records available to law enforcement on request. That is the reason we ask for the IMEI or serial number, and the reason we cannot delete it as quickly as other information.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share it only with:

• the shipping carrier that carries your device, which needs your name and address;
• the payment provider that sends your money;
• whoever meets you, if you choose a local meetup — they see your first name and the meeting details, nothing more;
• law enforcement, where a valid legal request requires it.

How long we keep it

Transaction records, including the device identifier, are kept for 3 years to satisfy the record-keeping rules described above. Quote answers that never became a sale are deleted after 12 months. Photos you sent us are deleted once the sale is complete and the return window has passed.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@sellyourdevice.net and we will respond within 30 days. Where a transaction record is subject to the retention rules above, we will delete everything we are permitted to delete and tell you what has to stay and why.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. We honor these requests regardless of your state.

Children

SellYourDevice is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly buy devices from minors or knowingly collect their information. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Cookies and analytics

This site currently sets no tracking cookies and runs no third-party analytics. If you add analytics, advertising pixels, or a live-chat widget later, this section has to be updated to name them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold, we will email anyone affected.
